NWA: Gorilla Drift Outlaw

Swiss-based Gorilla Watches releases its latest Drift Outlaw, which comes with the wandering hours complication that many are familiar with, in an all-new design.

A relative newcomer in the watch industry, Gorilla Watches is the brainchild of Octavio Garcia and Lukas Gopp, respectively the former design chief and senior designer of Audemars Piguet. Gorilla Watches is inspired by the technical and artistic exuberance of custom car culture and is built around three key pillars: power, referring to the unleashing of creative juices in horologic design to push the fine line between far enough and too far; performance, with radical material combinations that are engineered to be worn and seen; rarity, where production cycles are kept small.

Gorilla Watches was first introduced in Singapore when Red Army Watches (RAW) opened its sister retail concept, Watch Wonderland (WW), at the end of 2017. Its debut Fastback collection was well-received by both seasoned collectors and those new to watch collecting – similar to the brand’s reception in other parts of the world.

The brand quickly went on to launch the Fastback Drift in 2018, which shares a similar case design as its predecessors but boasts a Vaucher- manufactured movement with a wandering hours complication and an affordable price tag. The limited edition of 250 pieces was quickly sold out worldwide.

The Drift Outlaw is the latest novelty from Gorilla Watches. Bridging the past and the future, the Drift Outlaw captures the vibrant spirit of the 1970s while remaining infused with the signature Gorilla design trademarks.

Interlocking flush in a series of dynamic curves, the mirror-polished concave bezel and radial brushed case are fully sculpted from grade 5 titanium and fastened by four corner Allen head bolts. Pacific blue anodized aluminum flange and star satellites carry the hand-laid luminescent numerals and subdivisions, creating a subtle contrast against the NAC plated snail milled baseplate.

The retro-futurist tonneau silhouette of the Outlaw Drift is further emphasized by the perfectly tangent rubber and CorduraTM hybrid strap.

The Fastback GT Drift wandering hours was born of team collaboration with world-leading Swiss movement manufacturer, Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. Together, Gorilla and Vaucher rose to the challenge of designing, engineering and manufacturing a new class of complication bearing the technical and emotional attributes reserved to high watchmaking.

The proprietary Gorilla G-5238 wandering hours module is a contemporary reinterpretation of a 17th-century horologic mechanism, housed in a uniquely sculpted blend of high-performance materials, purposefully assembled in a sequence and designed to augment the user experience.

The Drift Outlaw is a limited edition of 250 pieces, intended to be accessible to a new generation of watch collectors.

First batch of pre-ordered pieces have started arriving. We have the last few pieces available for pre-order. Be one of the select few to own the Drift Outlaw by Gorilla Watches. Visit RAW ION Orchard (#B3-03) and RAW / WW Suntec City (#01-470/472) to make your purchase.
