Dive into the deep with the latest from Horizon Watches - the Nemo.

Hot on the heels of Ukrainian-Singaporean brand, Horizon Watches’ successful first two launches comes the latest release: the Nemo. The Jules Verne  universe has been the source of inspiration and imagination for Fred Bekher, founder and designer of Horizon Watches, for the brand’s first two collections. The new launch is no exception.

The Horizon Watches Nemo pays tribute to a character of the same name, Captain Nemo, created by the French novelist. Captain Nemo appears in two of Verne's science-fiction books, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870) and The Mysterious Island (1875). The Horizon Watches Nemo is the sequel of the brand’s first collection, the Nautilus. Where its brethren stood tall and dominant on the wrist, Nemo is the opposite: it is smaller and thinner.

That said, the Horizon Watches Nemo retains the traits that have fast become synonymous with the brand. Horizon Watches’ DNA includes: the two-part case construction; an Integrated Date Display (IDD); and tall markers with a unique proprietary font style.

As Bekher shares, “Although I was happy with how the Nautilus turned out, I wanted to create something that’s calmer and more subdued, while still retaining the signature style of the Nautilus. When I look at the prototypes of the Nemo, I think I may have created the best-looking diver with high level of detailing this time. And I’m excited to share this with everyone.”

With a height of just slightly above 10mm and a diameter of only 40mm, the Horizon Watches Nemo may pass off as any other dress watch. But wait, take a closer look and you will discover a myriad of interesting details.

The main body of the Horizon Watches Nemo’s case is a very complicated part to create. Similar to the Pilgrim and Nautilus, it combines two separate elements that have different surface finishes to achieve contrast between polished and brushed surfaces. On the Nemo, the overall dimension has been reduced substantially while maintaining the perfect proportion. The flow on the edge of the case and crown protector are also more fluid. As you run your fingers along the case, you will get a sense of multi-plane and multi-level surfaces. This is accentuated by the two-module case construction, which is a rarity. This unique method of construction makes perfect finishing, even at the nooks and crannies, possible. Coupled with various heights and slopes, beautifully finished stepped lugs are also visible. The Horizon Watches Nemo’s case has therefore become an object of art.

One of the most often-mentioned, unique feature of Horizon Watches is the ingenious way the brand has integrated the date window with the rest of the indices/markers, creating an almost perfect balance visually on the dial. With input from the Horizon Watches community, the term, Integrated Date Display, or IDD was coined to reference this feature. The IDD has been a trademark in the Nautilus and Pilgrim. It is a feature in the Horizon Watches Nemo, where the date disc is

customised to match the colour of the other markers. As much as possible, the IDD will be a signature trait of every Horizon Watches collection in the future.

Another trademark of Horizon Watches is the 0.6mm tall markers. This unique design not only showcases the beauty of each marker but also reinforces the sea creature Nautilus-inspired design for the numbers. These too you find in the Horizon Watches Nemo.

At the centre of the Nemo’s dial, there is a finely polished finished raised cone that serves as a base for the three uniquely designed hands for time reading. In line with the sea adventure story that inspired the Nemo, the hands are shaped like fishing spears. For superior legibility, all three hands are luminous.

The Horizon Watches Nemo’s screwdown crown with coin-edged design is 7.5mm in diameter, making it easy to handle and wind as needed. The signature indentation is also visible on the side. The Nemo is further equipped with a coin-edged unidirectional external rotating bezel that comes with a sapphire insert – an upgrade from previous collections - to measure time elapsed. The bezel has 120 clicks for a firmer rotation.

The Horizon Watches Nemo comes with a boxed type sapphire crystal with three layers of anti-reflective coating applied on the interior side. Beating within the watch is the reliable Swiss automatic workhorse: the Sellita SW200-1 calibre. Unlike the Nautilus, the Nemo comes with a simplified caseback. It features a wave pattern that is simple yet elegant and still a beauty to admire.

Every Nemo comes with two straps. The first is a newly designed stainless steel integrated-style bracelet. It comes with a butterfly clasp, which is preferred for its smaller, less bulky dimension relative to the standard deployant clasp. The butterfly clasp has what we believe is never before seen: a micro adjustment system on both sides of the bracelet that allows for microadjustment of the length of the bracelet. Termed MicroSliders, this is a simple concept of incorporating an additional link at the end of each side of the bracelet that can be adjusted in either half or full length by way of pressing and sliding a spring-loaded bar attached to the last link. Adjusting the length of your bracelet has never been easier – it can even be done on the fly for added convenience. The other strap that comes with every Nemo watch is a high quality and super comfortable FKM rubber strap that is equipped with quick release spring bar. It is an original design with 22mm width at the lug side tapering to 18mm.
