Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Amber

Description

The Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Amber is a limited edition of 49 pieces and inspired by the mighty and most water-rich river in Europe - the Neva. This is a 74km long river in Russia, which flows from Lake Ladoga into the Neva Bay of the Baltic Sea, passing through Saint Petersburg.

In the Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Amber, Alexander Shorokhov focused more on the magnificent, historic city centre, St Petersburg. With 2,300 palaces, magnificent buildings and castles, St Petersburg has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site  since 1991 under the collective term Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments.

Alexander Shorokhov is particularly fond of the Amber Room, which is a state room with walls that are covered with amber, gold and mirror elements. Tsarina Elizabeth had it installed in 1741 in the Winter Palace in St Petersburg and finally, in 1755, in the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo (Tsar’s Village). Amber refers to a clear to opaque yellow gemstone made of fossil resin that has been known and used for thousands of years. But amber can do much more: it is also known to possess a special energy. It is protective, cheerful, warm and positive. It can even help drive away negative feelings.

So, if you wear the Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Amber, it reminds you of all these positive emotions and aspects of life. The different warm brown tones make it look like the Amber Room, very pompous and powerful; on the other hand, the warm colours come across very natural and simple. Everything is harmoniously matched with each other.

The wavy guilloché of the dial and the small curved second hand, which bears the shape of the letter “N”, referring to the name of the watch and the magnificence of the city, remains as is consistent across the Neva collection. In the Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Amber, the silver-coloured hands and the silver-coloured large number “60” give a nice contrast to the warm colours of the watch. The stainless steel case is complemented with a beautiful dark brown calfskin strap.

Powering the Alexander Shorokhoff Neva is the Russian calibre, Poljot 3105. The movement is derived from the Swiss Valjoux calibre 7734, but without the chronograph function. The movement is completely overhauled, re-oiled, adjusted and tested at the Alexander Shorokhoff watch manufacture. The bridges, as always with Alexander Shorokhoff watches, are hand-engraved or cloud-cut, and the screws are polished and blued. This beauty can be viewed through exhibition caseback. These movements are no longer produced today. However, the Alexander Shorokhoff watch manufactory has secured a limited quantity and produces this series in a small limited edition.
