Angles Cylindrex Black Serpent 40mm Automatic Dual Time Watch

Description

Dark, mechanical and unapologetically futuristic, the Angles Cylindrex Black Serpent takes the collection's radical dual-display architecture and gives it one of its most striking treatments.

Its blacked-out case and cylindrical display are punctuated by vivid neon-green indications and a matching green silicone strap. Beneath that unconventional exterior are not one but two automatic mechanical movements, independently powering two different perspectives on time.

Inspiration & Design

The Cylindrex began with a challenge from Japanese movement manufacturer Miyota surrounding the reintroduction of its 6T movement series. Angles responded by designing a watch around the Miyota 6T15 - and then using it twice.

That decision defines the Cylindrex.

Instead of presenting time on a conventional flat dial, the watch uses two displays positioned on different planes. Its cylindrical display stretches across the body of the watch, while a separate end-cap display provides another way to read the time.

Black Serpent pushes this already unconventional concept further visually. A dark case and display architecture create the backdrop for electric green indications and a matching strap, giving the watch a distinctly futuristic character.

Dial & Case

The Cylindrex's defining feature is its cylindrical time display, with rotating numeral drums presenting time across the curved front of the watch rather than on a conventional dial. Black Serpent renders the display predominantly in black, contrasted by vivid green numerals and markings for exceptional visual impact.

A second display at the end of the case provides another perspective on time, reinforcing the Cylindrex's unusual multi-plane architecture.

The case follows the Cylindrex's 40mm-wide, 13mm-high construction and is made from PVD-coated 316L stainless steel. Sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating protect both time displays, while an exhibition sapphire caseback reveals the mechanics and distinctive turbofan-style rotor.

Dual push-pull crowns correspond with the watch's twin-movement construction, while drilled screw-down lugs secure the strap. Water resistance is rated to 30 metres.

Movement

The Cylindrex is unusual outside because it is equally unconventional underneath.

Two Miyota 6T15 automatic movements independently power its separate time displays. Each 21-jewel movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with Angles stating accuracy of ±30 seconds per day.

The cylindrical display provides approximately 36 hours of power reserve, while the end-cap display offers approximately 40 hours.

It is an intentionally extravagant mechanical solution. Rather than using electronics or a single movement to create the illusion of complexity, the Cylindrex employs two genuine automatic calibres to make its dual-display concept work.

Bracelet / Strap

Black Serpent is paired with a vivid neon-green silicone strap that provides an emphatic contrast against the black case and display.

Measuring 24mm at the case and tapering to 20mm, the strap reinforces the watch's contemporary, almost industrial character while allowing the Black Serpent's distinctive colour treatment to continue beyond the case.

Final Thoughts

The Cylindrex was never designed to disappear quietly beneath a cuff, and Black Serpent may be one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy.

The black-and-neon-green treatment gives it immediate visual impact, but there is substance behind the spectacle. Two automatic movements, two independently powered displays and an architecture dictated by the mechanics make this much more than an exercise in unusual styling.

For collectors who believe mechanical watchmaking should occasionally be strange, playful and provocative, Black Serpent makes a convincing case.

Angles Cylindrex Black Serpent 40mm Automatic Dual Time Watch

Product form

SKU: ANG.CYL.BLKSER

Two automatic movements. Two displays. One seriously unconventional way to wear green.

At a Glance

  • Two mechanical watches in one - dual automatic movements independently power its two displays
  • Time from an entirely different angle - the cylindrical architecture abandons the familiar flat-dial format
  • Black meets electric green - the Black Serpent's high-contrast treatment gives an already radical watch even greater visual impact
  • Mechanics, not digital trickery - despite its futuristic appearance, the Cylindrex is entirely mechanically driven
  • Designed to start conversations - this is not a watch that needs close inspection to reveal that something unusual is going on
  • Hard to find, harder to mistake - Black Serpent brings a particularly distinctive identity to an already unmistakable collection
Why RAW Curated This: The Cylindrex represents exactly the sort of independent thinking RAW exists to showcase: a watch that questions something as fundamental as what a mechanical wristwatch should look like. Black Serpent takes that proposition even further. The electric green against the dark Cylindrex architecture makes no attempt to soften the watch's eccentricity - it celebrates it. More importantly, the mechanics justify the drama. Beneath the unconventional display are two automatic movements independently doing the work, making Black Serpent as interesting mechanically as it is visually.

Who This Is For

  • Collectors who actively seek watches that look unlike anything else in their collection
  • Those fascinated by alternative mechanical time displays and unusual engineering
  • Anyone drawn to futuristic, industrial and high-contrast design
  • The collector who wants a watch that becomes an immediate conversation piece
  • Those who think independent watchmaking should occasionally be a little outrageous
