Inspiration & Design
Where the original Blue Planet celebrated our home planet, the Black Star looks outward. Inspired by black holes, distant galaxies and the forces that shape the universe, the watch transforms the dial into a miniature cosmic landscape.
At its centre lies a dramatic black hole pit measuring 8.5mm deep. Finished in an ultra-black coating capable of absorbing more than 99% of visible light, it creates the illusion of a seemingly endless void. Surrounding this dark centre, hand-painted stars and swirling galactic textures evoke the movement of celestial bodies across space.
The collaboration with Label Noir brings a distinctly monochromatic character to the design. Known for its mastery of contrast and understated luxury, the Swiss atelier strips away unnecessary colour, allowing texture, depth and form to become the focus. Dial & Case Details
The Black Star's dial is unlike anything found in traditional watchmaking. Rather than relying on a flat surface, it uses sculptural depth to create an immersive visual experience. The central black hole draws the eye inward, while the surrounding cosmic textures create the impression of a galaxy viewed from above.
A luminous polar-star-shaped indicator travels around the dial, providing intuitive time reading while reinforcing the celestial theme. Carefully integrated luminous elements ensure visibility in low-light conditions while adding another layer of visual intrigue.
The case is crafted from Grade 2 titanium and finished with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating. Lightweight yet exceptionally durable, titanium provides outstanding comfort on the wrist while the DLC treatment enhances scratch resistance and contributes to the watch's rich monochrome appearance.
Movement & Mechanics
Powering the Black Star is the Swiss-made CD-04-S automatic movement. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the calibre incorporates 26 jewels and delivers a power reserve of approximately 41 hours.
The movement also features CIGA DESIGN's proprietary Asynchronous-Follow Technology. Unlike traditional displays where separate hands rotate independently, the system allows the minute ring and hour display to move in a coordinated sequence around the dial. This unconventional approach creates a fluid and highly intuitive method of displaying time while reinforcing the watch's sculptural character.
