Description
The Laco Köln Grau takes the unmistakable clarity of a traditional German pilot's watch and gives it a distinctly more contemporary, technical character. A dark sandblasted stainless-steel case, matte black dial and functional rotating bezel move the design beyond the historical cockpit aesthetic while preserving the legibility at the heart of Laco's pilot-watch heritage.

Inspiration & Design
Laco's history with pilot's watches reaches back to the 1940s, when the company was one of the manufacturers producing observation watches for German aviation. Those original instruments were defined by function: immediate legibility, robust construction and an absence of unnecessary decoration.
The Köln Grau carries that functional philosophy forward without attempting to recreate a historical watch wholesale.
Its dark sandblasted finish, rotating bezel and technical FiberTech strap give the familiar pilot-watch language a more modern edge. The result feels recognisably Laco, but more contemporary and versatile than a direct vintage reproduction.
Dial & Case
The matte black dial prioritises clarity, with bold numerals and indexes treated with Super-LumiNova C1 for visibility in low light. Thermally blued steel hands provide a traditional Laco detail against the otherwise restrained, technical palette and are also filled with Super-LumiNova C1.
The dark sandblasted stainless-steel case measures 41mm in diameter, 12mm high and 49.5mm lug-to-lug. The subdued surface treatment reduces visual shine and reinforces the Köln Grau's purposeful character.
A double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial. Surrounding it is a unidirectional rotating bezel whose indexes are also treated with Super-LumiNova C1.
A screw-down crown and 200 metres of water resistance give the Köln Grau considerably more practical capability than its pilot-watch styling might initially suggest, while a sapphire display caseback provides a view of the automatic movement within.
Movement
The Köln Grau is powered by the Laco 200 automatic movement, based on the Swiss Sellita SW 200.
The movement features hacking seconds, allowing the seconds hand to be stopped when setting the time for greater precision.
It is a dependable Swiss automatic calibre that fits the philosophy of the Köln Grau well: proven, serviceable mechanics inside a watch designed to be worn regularly rather than handled delicately.
Bracelet / Strap
The Köln Grau is fitted with a black, water-resistant FiberTech strap, continuing the functional character of the watch while providing a more technical alternative to the traditional leather straps associated with classic pilot's watches.
The 20mm strap is paired with a dark sandblasted stainless-steel buckle that matches the finish of the case. Designed for wrists approximately 16.5 to 21.5cm, the combination keeps the watch lightweight at 88g including the strap.
Final Thoughts
The Köln Grau occupies an interesting position within Laco's pilot-watch range.
It retains the essential ingredients that make a Laco immediately recognisable - exceptional legibility, functional design and genuine pilot-watch lineage - but doesn't rely on nostalgia for its appeal. The dark case, luminous rotating bezel and FiberTech strap make it feel decidedly contemporary.
Add 200m/20ATM of water resistance and a Swiss automatic movement, and the result is a particularly versatile Laco: historically grounded, but built for considerably more than looking backwards.
