Description
The Laco Stuttgart PRO 1162 brings the unmistakable clarity of the classic Type A pilot watch into a slimmer, more contemporary 37mm format. Its dark blue sunburst dial adds depth and changing character to the traditionally functional Flieger layout, while a stainless-steel bracelet gives this Ready To Wear configuration a distinctly modern presence.
Powered by a Swiss automatic movement in Elaboré grade and built with 200 metres of water resistance, the PRO 1162 combines Laco's historic pilot-watch language with specifications designed for modern everyday wear.
Inspiration & Design
The Stuttgart PRO is Laco's evolution of the traditional Flieger rather than a direct historical reproduction. The familiar emphasis on clarity and functionality remains, but the PRO platform introduces slimmer cases, curved lugs, stronger water resistance and extensive configuration possibilities.
The PRO 1162 is one of Laco's official Ready To Wear configurations. This particular execution combines a compact 37mm case with a Type A layout, dark blue sunburst dial and stainless-steel bracelet - a combination that moves the pilot-watch aesthetic noticeably away from its utilitarian origins without losing its identity.
Dial & Case
The dark blue dial has a sunburst finish that changes noticeably with the light, shifting from deep navy to more vivid blue depending on the viewing angle. The traditional Type A layout keeps the display highly legible, with large Arabic numerals, a clear minute track and the characteristic triangle-and-dot marker at 12 o'clock.
The Laco logo and “Made in Germany” inscription are retained on this configuration. Numerals and indexes use Super-LumiNova C3, complemented by thermally blued hands filled with the same luminous material.
The brushed stainless-steel case measures 37mm in diameter, 10.95mm high and 44.5mm lug-to-lug, with an 18mm lug width. Unlike some Stuttgart PRO configurations, the 1162 has no FL23883 engraving on the case side.
A double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside protects the dial. The screw-down crown sits conventionally on the right, while the solid screw-down caseback contributes to water resistance of 200m/20ATM.
Movement
Inside the PRO 1162 is a Swiss automatic movement specified in Elaboré grade, with an undecorated finish and no date display.
For the Stuttgart PRO platform, Laco uses the Laco 200 automatic calibre based on the Sellita SW 200-1 for automatic configurations. The no-date execution also avoids an unnecessary date display interrupting the symmetry of the traditional Type A dial.
Bracelet / Strap
This PRO 1162 configuration is fitted with a stainless-steel bracelet, giving the traditional pilot-watch design a noticeably more contemporary character than the riveted leather straps typically associated with historic Flieger watches.
On the 37mm Stuttgart PRO, the bracelet contributes to a total specified weight of approximately 101g and accommodates wrist circumferences of approximately 14.5–19cm.
Final Thoughts
The Stuttgart PRO 1162 is a good example of what the PRO concept does particularly well: it evolves Laco's pilot-watch heritage without disguising where the design came from.
The Type A layout remains unmistakably Flieger, but the compact 37mm dimensions, blue sunburst dial and steel bracelet change its personality considerably. Add the slim profile, Swiss automatic movement and 200m water resistance, and this becomes much more than a heritage piece - it is a genuinely versatile modern mechanical watch.
