Description
The Laco Stuttgart PRO 1209 gives the classic Type A Flieger a contemporary edge through a rich green sunburst dial, slim 40mm case and purposeful details drawn from Laco’s pilot-watch heritage. This Ready To Wear configuration combines a brushed stainless steel case with FL23883 side engraving and a traditional dark brown riveted leather strap.
Powered by the Swiss Laco 200 automatic movement in Elaboré grade and offering 200 metres of water resistance, the PRO 1209 balances authentic pilot-watch character with specifications designed for modern everyday wear.

Inspiration & Design
The Stuttgart PRO takes Laco’s historic Flieger design as its starting point, but it is deliberately an evolution rather than a direct reproduction. Slimmer cases, curved lugs, stronger water resistance and extensive configuration choices bring the traditional pilot watch into a more contemporary context.
The 1209 retains the classic Baumuster A/Type A layout, but its green dial immediately gives the familiar design a different personality. At 40mm, it also occupies a useful middle ground within the PRO range - offering more wrist presence than the compact 37mm models without returning to historically oversized pilot-watch proportions.
Dial & Case
The green sunburst dial retains the clarity central to the Type A Flieger, with large Arabic numerals, a clear minute track and the characteristic triangle-and-dot orientation marker at 12 o’clock. Laco and “Made in Germany” printing are retained on this configuration, while Super-LumiNova C3 on the numerals, indexes and thermally blued hands provides strong low-light visibility.
The brushed stainless steel case measures 40mm in diameter, 11.35mm high and 47.5mm lug-to-lug, with a 20mm lug width. Unlike the 37mm PRO 1208 you also carry, this configuration includes the traditional FL23883 engraving on the case side, adding another visual reference to historic German pilot watches.
A double-domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the screw-down crown and closed screw-down caseback contribute to water resistance of 200m/20ATM.
Movement
Inside is the Laco 200 automatic movement, based on the Swiss Sellita SW 200-1 and specified here in Elaboré grade. This configuration uses the undecorated movement and dispenses with a date display, keeping the Type A dial clean and symmetrical.
Laco also removes the unnecessary date-setting crown position from its no-date PRO configurations, avoiding the so-called ghost-date position normally associated with the underlying movement.
Bracelet / Strap
The PRO 1209 is fitted with a dark brown leather pilot strap with rivets, reinforcing the traditional aviation character of the Type A design while providing a warm contrast against the green dial.
This particular configuration pairs the leather with a dark sandblasted stainless steel buckle, introducing a subtle darker detail against the otherwise brushed case. As a natural material, the leather may show slight variations in colour and texture from strap to strap.
Final Thoughts
The Stuttgart PRO 1209 sits in a particularly appealing middle ground within Laco’s configurable pilot-watch range.
Its 40mm proportions give the Type A design enough presence without feeling oversized, while the green sunburst dial brings considerably more personality than the conventional black Flieger. Details such as the FL23883 engraving and riveted leather strap preserve the historical connection, but the slim case, sapphire crystal, Swiss automatic movement and 200m water resistance make this very much a modern watch.
For someone who wants recognisable Laco heritage without choosing a literal historical reproduction, the 1209 makes a compelling Ready To Wear configuration.
