Inspiration & Design
Long before electronic navigation, accurate mechanical timekeeping was essential at sea. Marine chronometers and observation watches were precision instruments, designed above all for clarity and reliability.
Laco's connection to this tradition reaches back to the 1940s, when the company was among the manufacturers capable of meeting the requirements established by the German Marine Observatory in Hamburg.
The Valencia interprets that history for the wrist rather than reproducing a historical instrument literally. Its uncluttered layout, restrained finishing and strong black-on-light contrast preserve the functional character of traditional marine watches in a more wearable 39mm format.
Dial & Case
The Valencia's light-coloured dial is designed around clarity, with black Arabic numerals, a railway-style minute track and black hands creating strong contrast at a glance. Super-LumiNova C3 adds low-light visibility while preserving the traditional character of the display.
The matt-finished stainless-steel case measures 39mm in diameter, 11.55mm high and 46.5mm lug-to-lug. These restrained proportions suit the Valencia particularly well, allowing its historically inspired design to feel refined rather than oversized.
A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while a second sapphire crystal in the caseback provides a view of the automatic movement.
Water resistance is rated to 50m/5ATM.
Movement
The Valencia 39 is powered by the Laco 21 automatic movement, based on the Japanese Miyota 8217.
The movement features hacking seconds, allowing the seconds hand to be stopped while setting the time more precisely.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the automatic calibre provides a mechanical counterpart to the Valencia's instrument-inspired dial while keeping the watch practical for regular wear.
Bracelet / Strap
The Valencia 39 is fitted with a classic brown calf leather strap, reinforcing the warmer, more traditional character of the marine-watch design.
Its 18mm lug width keeps the strap proportionate to the compact case, while the combination of brown leather, matt stainless steel and the light dial gives the Valencia an understated versatility that works particularly well away from overtly sporty settings.
The supplied strap is suitable for wrist circumferences of approximately 14.5 to 19cm.
