Description
The Zelos Hammerhead 43 Field ‘Carbon’ brings an unusual material treatment to one of the brand’s most substantial dive-watch platforms. At its centre is a CNC-guilloché forged carbon dial, which adds a precisely machined geometric texture to the naturally irregular character of forged carbon.
Surrounding it is the familiar Hammerhead formula: a robust 43mm stainless steel case, 300m water resistance, sapphire crystal and a solid steel bracelet, powered by the reliable no-date Seiko NH38 automatic movement.
Inspiration & Design
The Hammerhead has always represented the more muscular side of Zelos design, but the Field ‘Carbon’ takes a slightly different approach to the usual dive-watch aesthetic.
Rather than relying primarily on colour, its character comes from surface and depth. Zelos describes the dial as the first CNC-guilloché forged carbon dial, machining an ordered pattern into a material normally recognised for its random, layered appearance. The result brings together two very different visual languages: the precision of guilloché and the organic variation of forged carbon.
Dial & Case Details
The forged carbon dial is the defining feature of this model. CNC machining gives the surface additional dimensionality and texture, allowing the pattern to interact with the underlying carbon structure rather than simply sitting above it.
The watch is housed in a 43mm 316L stainless steel case, measuring 48mm lug-to-lug and 13mm thick including the crystal. A domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while 300m water resistance gives the Hammerhead genuine dive-watch capability.
Zelos combines Super-LumiNova C3, Lumicast and BGW9 for nighttime visibility, adding another layer of depth to the dial architecture.
Movement & Mechanics
Inside is the Seiko NH38, an automatic mechanical movement specifically configured without a date display.
It is a sensible choice for the Hammerhead: robust, proven and straightforward, while the absence of a date complication allows the dial design to remain uninterrupted.
Bracelet/Strap & Wearability
The Field ‘Carbon’ is supplied on a 316L stainless steel bracelet, visually extending the substantial architecture of the case onto the wrist.
A quick-adjust clasp with external release allows the bracelet fit to be altered without tools - a particularly useful feature on a watch designed for active, everyday wear.
Final Impression
The Hammerhead 43 Field ‘Carbon’ is ultimately about what Zelos does particularly well: taking materials that already have visual interest and finding a way to push them further.
Forged carbon alone would have made an unusual dial. Machining a guilloché pattern into it gives the material considerably more structure and makes this Hammerhead distinctive without depending on an elaborate colour treatment.
At 43mm, this remains a substantial watch, but the relatively compact 48mm lug-to-lug helps contain its footprint. For collectors who like the ruggedness of the Hammerhead but want something more material-driven than a conventional dive-watch dial, this is one of the more interesting interpretations of the platform.
